I often ask the dogs to do a few minutes of a random mixture of "sit," "down" and "stand" when we are just hanging around the house. It is a great way to sneak in basic training and mental stimulation. Recently, while watching Brychwyn launch himself from a "down" to a "stand" and then crouch back "down" again, I realized that our rounds of obedience commands are also excellent fit dog time. All three dogs get a great chest, shoulder and hind quarter workout throughout the mix of basic obedience commands. So we went out yesterday evening and spent a few minutes doing sets of a mix if "stand," down" and "sit" to share for FitDog Friday. We didn't take photos of all the heel work! Which is obviously another wonderful way to get physical conditioning as well as mental stimulation for dogs of every size. In the slideshows and video you can see the great workout the dogs get as they move from one command to another. With at least eight to ten repetitions of each move, they get some outstanding fit dog time while working their brains too.
The Cascadian Nomads love FitDog Friday and are proud to have been a part of it for almost one year! Thanks so much to SlimDoggy, Peggy’s Pet Place and To Dog With Love for helping bloggers and readers learn SO much about fitness and fit time with their dogs. As always, you'll learn a lot from clicking around the blogs below. We look forward to many more years of learning and sharing. |
